Fiona & Paul’s story
Ceremony Venue – St. Mary The Virgin Church Hambleden
Reception Venue – A marquee in the Dene, Hambleden
We are lucky enough to work with many lovely couples on their wedding day. This summer we helped Fiona and Paul create their vintage country garden wedding. Fiona and Paul’s colour theme was mainly whites with a few pastel tones of blu, peach, pale pink and lilac. We used Avalanche roses, gypsophilia, bombastic spray roses, peach hypericum berries, white double lisianthus, nigella, scabious and mint.
Each wedding is unique and we always love hearing about the Bride and Groom’s special day. Fiona and Paul tell us about their wedding day in their own words.
The Proposal – It’s a funny story! We actually got engaged over 6 years ago on my birthday. Paul surprised me with an electric toothbrush, which I wasn’t over the moon with, and having taken me out for the day where it rained persistently he took me to a pub in Ibstone called the Fox and proposed.
The Bridal Party – We have a few folk. My niece Rosie, my best friend Sally and her 2 daughters Faith and Imogen (my God daughters), and we then had 2 best men, Tom (Paul’s best friend) and James (his brother). The 2 ushers were Nikolai & Chris, plus our 2 page boys, Felix and Lucas.
The Big Day – It was a vintage themed wedding – we kept it really simple, with pastels for the bridal party. We were married in the beautiful village of Hambleden, by the Reverend Sue Morton and we had our marquee reception on the Hambleden Dene, a stunning location nestled in the Hambleden valley, surrounded by the football, cricket and tennis clubs. The Dene is available for hire, and for anyone considering a village wedding. It’s a lovely lace to use with the Stag & Huntsman pub located at the entrance to the Dene. The theme inside our marquee was white table linen & chairs, with grey napkins to offset the white, and of course our beautiful flowers housed in milk jugs.
Flowers – I researched vintage wedding flowers on Pinterest. I’d recommend building mood boards using Pinterest to any bride! I found a beautiful bouquet, containing simple pale flowers, wrapped in hessian and lace at the stems. We chose Sonning Flowers because my husband Paul works a lot with them given he looks after events at the Henley Business School, and we knew we’d get a quality service. Our guests loved the flowers given how simple but stunning they were, fitting with a country wedding. I didn’t have a favourite, I just loved how they all worked together.
Honeymoon – We went to Singapore and Bali 🙂
The team at Sonning Flowers wish Fiona and Paul all the very best for their future as Mr & Mrs.
