Sonning Flowers embarks on new partnership with com:post

This month we have started taking part in a scheme for a new system of green waste removal and we are excited to announce a new partnership with com:post.

com:post has been created to help the flower industry reduce the amount of green waste it sends to landfill. Using compostable bags the com:post system turns green floristry waste into proper compost which is then used by agricultural and horticultural growers to grow more food and flowers.

Following the resounding success of the pilot, March 2024 saw it launched commercially. One of the key partners, FleuraMetz is one of the companies we purchase our flowers from and they are offering this service to us so we are now in partnership with com:post too!

How does the system work?

It’s incredibly simple! We are provided with com:post sacks which we will fill with our green flower waste.

When the sacks are full they are collected when we receive our next flower delivery from FleuraMetz on a weekly basis.

com:post then take this waste to their network of certified UK composters and turn the whole bag into reusable compost.

The initiative not only cuts down waste, it aims to promote composting as a sustainable alternative.

This is such a great way of reducing the amount of green waste that goes into landfill (the method by which the majority of the floristry industry get rid of their waste). Not only that, the by product is then “re-invested” back into the industry in the form of compost.

We are passionate about the environment and about developing our green credentials. Our partnership with com:post will further help us to reduce our environmental impact and hopefully reassures our customers how serious we are about our sustainability policy. We’re excited to be part of the biggest positive change to floristry for decades.
